A great turnout today as the field begins to take shape. The weather was kind to us all except for the cyclonic winds. I guess it is that time of year so we better get used to the wind.

The club would like to thank NULEAF for their very kind donation of grass seed. We hope to turn our newly graded runways and parking areas

After a late night rushing to finish his trainer Trent finally got to see it fly. Thanks to help of our instructor James it flew perfectly. Keep up the good work Trent. You are doing a great job.

James flew his ever reliable edge and showed that the wind didn't make any difference to his silky flying skills.

Curtis had a line up of his newly decorated Astro hog and the Fieseler Stork. He also tempted fate with his 450 chopper but the wind seamed to make that a little to risky.

Greg had his instructor face on as he watched Billy go through his paces flying for his bronze wings. Billy had his "oh shit" face on but, as it proved, for no reason.

Dennis prepared the FW 190 but the onboard starter had other ideas. No flying today. Hope it wasn't caused by that dodgy soldering on the motor done by that even dodgier club member.

 The Yak was up for a fly and It looked the part.

It was great to see the return of Pastor Barry a, past member who took a furlow to build his new home. He came to the aid of James and reset James's transmitter with a hand full of expo and that helped hone James's flying skills. Good work both of you.

 Irish had another lesson with James as her instructor. Great flying Irish..When is that solo coming.

Anthony getting his MXS-R ready. It flew well with Anthony giving his engine a flogging. That was just before the engine decided enough was enough and the crankshaft (we think) kinda bent. That put paid to its flying this week.  

It was time for the maiden flight of Anthonys new Wilga. (nicknamed Bloody Ugly) 

It was very hesitant to get into the air but that was only to precede the next few terrifying moments for Anthony. With full back elevator he frantically had to trim full back as well only just to make a very quick landing which resulted in the Exhaust canister being pulled away on landing. Lucky escape.

After some hasty investigation it appears that the elevator/horizontal tail plain has the wrong angle of incidence and is forcing the nose down.  Some work to be done here before its next flight.

In an attempt to get us all on the same page i have made this plan of our parking at the field. It is only a start to see how it works. If everyone can start to park this way we can then gauge its effectiveness. If anyone has any other ideas please put them forward so we can assess it all.

The newlook CMAC

Well the field has now been graded and is starting to take shape. Slowly we are getting a field that we can use and call home.

the strip should be nice and firm and smooooth.

The weather was fantastic and it was time to get some flying done.

Billy had another successful flight of his Cap. Getting good now Billy won't be long before we see that Mustang of yours flying.

Well another great day and with the new field taking shape we sure hope that there will be many more to come.   Sorry about the late post of this weeks news but i will try and get the news out by the Sunday after each weeks flying.

Well today everyone was blown away....... Not by the sights but by the wind. Most club members had the right idea and stayed home but a few just couldn't help themselves.

 Now that Anthony has purchased a new vinyl cutting machine I am sure the field will be adorned with many more of his creations.


Some late mail. The field work has begun with a lot of grading being carried out. The field is looking like the makings of a bowling green. The driveway has been graded all the way from the road to the parking area. Almost a 2 lane highway. The main runway and cross strips have been graded and widened quite a bit. That should help everyone with their landing. The car park is an extra 50 meters long now so it will accommodate a lot more cars.




Once the grass starts to grow again it should be a very smooth field. Lots of great things happening at the new look CMAC

        Perfect weather was a great start to the day for CMAC.

A big thank you to Cairns Hardware for their great support with the donation of all our barrier and flight box materials.


After a bit of mowing and leveling we have a very usable field and with a bit more work and the possible addition of 9 cubic meters of Crusher Dust CMAC may actually have a great home for at least the next year or more until our permanent home is available. 

A big thanks to Bob and Anthony for their help in getting the field to this stage. Well done. Anthony had a look at our old haunt and it is all ploughed up and looks a very sorry site. Certainly not available for any more flying. We are so lucky to have this new spot. It is actually taking great shape and is proving to be a perfect new site for us to fly. Many thanks to the owner Jeff Mann for his great support and contribution to our club.

As members and guests arrived it wasn't long before the field was christened with a bit of flying and ummm, shall we say some HARD landings. The field is great for checking out our talents both in flying and in landing (strangely now on a runway). Off strip landings are going to be a little rough so planning to land on the strip will be the big emphasis. Proof of this can be seen in the next few photos.

Hey James do those wheels belong to you. I think you must have found a pot hole still to be fixed in the strip.

Nothing a bit more epoxy won't fix.

 

 

 

 Michael I think you must have found another pot hole. Maybe you can get some epoxy from James. After all it appears that the use of wheels today seem highly over rated.


Well we did have quite a few successful flights for the day with some great and silky smooth flying from Matt Holt and his IMAC 60cc twin. Matt fly's with the Mareeba club so it was great to have him out here with us for the day. With the growth of CMAC we hope that the inter-club relationships can gather all members support.

Our Prez had a few very good flights of hi Bi-plane and even managed to fly the fields first Heli.

 

 

 

 

Turk Had a bit of trouble trying to coax the engine into life but with no luck had to call it quits and send it back to the hanger.

 

 

 

James flew his Phoenix 2000 until the little electronic aliens jumped aboard and sent the glider into the turf. More of that epoxy required.

 

 

 

 

 

After our first day I think we can safely say the new field is going to work out fine. A little more work and I am sure that we are going to be able to have a lot of great flying days ahead. Thanks to all those who have put in their time and effort. The club has decided that we all need to add an additional $20 payment for this years membership to help cover the cost of fuel and maintenance for the new mower. Payments can be made to the club by Internet banking or by payment to the treasurer. Thank you all in anticipation of your payments as this will help maintain the club in a healthy financial position and enable us to move forward as the opportunities arise.

 

With a lot of enquires from other clubs CMAC has made a decision that affiliate membership for current members of other clubs be $50. This is made up of the CMAC's $30 membership plus the $20 fuel levy.
